No, no, no. If ever there was an argument for using neutron bombs...

Despite what many would construe as police state tactics, we have been unable to keep cocaine and heroin out of the country despite the threat of long prison sentences. With no real deterrence other than sending them back to Mexico, and a huge demand by poor Mexicans to make a better life for themselves this problem cannot be solved by enforcing the existing laws any more than the drug war can

Steve is merely resigned to the inevitable.Lilith wrote:What we need most is will and determination to return immigration to legal processes. If we have that, we can stop 98% of illegal immigration. It is defeatists like you, who throw up your arms and accept

The sign of the future will be what happens when and if the dumbasses in Congress vote for an fund static infiltration control, i.e., a fence of some kind. That will show whether they have the stones necessary to regularize immigration. The problem with Democrats is they want those illegal Latino voters; the problem with Republicans is they can't stand to be called "mean" and "racist."
My hunch is it will go something like this: they have already voted for a half of a fence for some inexplicable reason; they will underfund it if they fund it at all; then they will wait a few years to see if the birth rate in Mexico declines, as some have said it will do, thus relieving the pressure on the border; if the latter happens, they will forget the whole thing; if illegal immigration continues as a steady clip, it will be 5-10 years down the road and we will be faced with another monstrous amnesty problem; the specific Hill Rats who voted effectively to do nothing will have left office, with the exception of John Dingle and John Conyers, who will be embalmed in place to carry on their fine 1960s ultraliberal Democratic tradtions.
