Guilty!

Post by BWV 1080 » Thu May 25, 2006 11:13 am

Now lets hope that Lay and Skilling get appropriately harsh sentences. Too bad the chain gang is not an option.

People like Lay, Skilling and Fastow undermine the capitalist system. We need to make an example of them.

Regardless of the sentences, I predict Ken Lay will not serve beyond 20 JAN 2009.

I hope you're wrong about that remlem. A CNN poll this morning shows 93% agreeing with the verdict.

Why are they free until the Sept sentencing?

They should be in jail NOW

It's routine for those convicted of White Collar crimes to be free on bail pending sentencing. The purpose of bail is to insure attendance at all court proceedings. Flight risk in this case is negligible.

Even when sentenced, federal courts almost invariably order a surrender date for these defendants which gives them time to straighten out their affairs. Remember Martha Stewart?

Whether one agrees with this process or not, it's clearly within the parameters of the federal Bail Reform Act and this kind of defendant is treated the same whatever their background politically or socially.

Why should they get time to straighten out their affairs?

As far as I am concerned they can straighten out their affairs from prison.
If I was one of the thousands swindled out of their pensions and investments, I'd be furious that they get the extra time.

Many would agree with you, Lilith. I responded with a statement as to what the law is and how it's implemented.
