A warning

Post by keaggy220 » Thu Jan 25, 2007 6:49 pm

Never, and I mean never, fall asleep during the third movement of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 with headphones on... I know this from recent personal experience. Fortunately I don't have a bad heart, if I did it could've been fatal.

But DO fall asleep during Pachelbel's Canon in D regardless of your heart condition.

I saw a guy on uTube play Canon in D on electric guitar and it was pretty entertaining, but I understand it gets old quick.

I heard of a guy who fell asleep listening to a Dittersdorf work through headphones and he's now permanently institutionalized.

Speaking of works which are played too much, I would like to propose a new Academy Award for the most judicious and tear jerking use of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings in a film from the previous year.

There always seem to be at least five potential nominees.

I admit I am - uTube is probably the guiltiest of my guilty pleasures! I noticed this video had over 1 million views - amazing...

This year I will buy something Dittersdorf just because you are so good hearted in your persistence! :)

The Tchaikovsky thing was amusing because I was already tired and the 2nd and 3rd movements, I would describe as tranquil, quiet and relaxing - really excellent though... Anyway, I fell asleep somewhere during the 3rd movement. The 4th movement starts with, what I would judge to be a 300lbs man crashing cymbals as hard as he can - using something just smaller than a tree-trunk, followed quickly by blaring brass. Needless to say I jumped out of bed like I had been shot and my pulse was running at about 300 bpm.
