I already wrote one, but it requires a 5-octave range, ability to do double-stops and whistle loud enough to cut through fff brass passages

It is an interesting project. The West Point Band used to do the classic "The Whistler and His Dog" every year at one of their summer concerts with audience participation (it is remarkably difficult to get right--I can do it in tune but not with much in the way of timbre). Occasionally they would substitute the trio of a well-known march (not The Stars and Stripes Forever).

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.
