Contemporary spiritual music

Post by mountweazel » Fri Feb 02, 2007 6:38 pm

Arvo Pärt, John Tavener, Morten Lauridsen, Richard Einhorn... Are there any other good contemporary classical composers, whose music could be classified as "spiritual?" Is Eric Whitacre any good? I've been meaning to dig into his stuff but somehow I get the feeling his music is grossly kitsch (then again Hyperion has put out his CDs so maybe my prejudice is unfounded...)

Check out Batlimore Soulful Symphony, while not traditional "church" music, the music is very spiritual.

Other than that, I have nothing to contribute.
