Need your help with two pieces from Schindler's List

Post by sirrvs » Tue Feb 06, 2007 1:44 pm

Greetings everyone! There are these two pieces from Schindler's List that I could never find the name of. They aren't on the soundtrack or even on the listings of popular music from the movie. So I thought I'd challenge you classical buffs to name them for me.

The first is a piano piece that a woman plays when Schindler is throwing a party to celebrate the opening of his company:

The second is the waltz that he and his wife dance to while he is eyeing another woman:

I've been looking for the names of these songs for years so any help is much appreciated!

The first clip reminded me of "Meine Lippen Sie Kussen So Heiss" from Giuditta by Franz Lehar.

I thought all the music was written for the movie by John Williams

John Williams did compose the score, but he may have included a snippet or two from the classics.

I thought that described every John Williams piece :)

Maybe you're right, BWV. Hopefully someone more expert will enlighten us further on this matter.

Yup, he definitely used classical and popular music in the movie. I've been hunting those songs down for years starting with "Por Una Cabeza."

Impower, right on with "Meine Lippen!" The funny thing is, I had already heard that suggestion and listened to the song before, but I didn't recognize it until now. Thanks!

Now for that waltz...

I use all the Lehar stuff on The Job...Lehar has a thematic index which is totally great, except it is out of print and consequently On Reserve at the SFPL. I had always wondered what that frantic guy was playing (think it was Bach) in the ghetto just before the sale boche shot him. Uncle Ralph said he thought it was one of the piano suites, but I am having a Senior Moment right now and cannot remember...

It was Bach's English Suite No. 2 I think.

Any ideas about the waltz? Could it be a Strauss waltz?

It sounds like a waltz by Franz Lehar.
