Daphnis Et Chloé
Daphnis Et Chloé
I've been pleased with many Naxos recordings recently, but the new recording of Ravel's masterpiece is just awful. It is performed inadequately by the Bordeaux-Aquitaine National Orchestra and conducted without heart by Laurent Petitgirard.
And to think that I once thought Rattle's recording was a waste of space. It now sounds like the best recording ever made compared to this new Naxos. However you'd be better off buying the Dutoit or Monteux versions.

With the Dutoit on Decca Legends, I have ceased looking. Other D&C experiences include Monteux, Munch, Nagano, Rattle.Intergamer wrote:I've been pleased with many Naxos recordings recently, but the new recording of Ravel's masterpiece is just awful. for this great opus - it really pays to go first class -Intergamer wrote:It now sounds like the best recording ever made compared to this new Naxos. However you'd be better off buying the Dutoit or Monteux versions.
Monteux is excellent - so is Bernstein/NYPO and Abbado/LSO

Anyone have thoughts on DG's Boulez/Berlin and Chung in this work? I've heard neither.
I have Munch/'55, Monteux, and Dutoit; greatly enjoying what each offers and finding little to choose between them aside from niggling differences in sound quality.
The knock on Dutoit's early digital recording was that there were no index points on the CD (one long track), though for casual listening I've never seen the need unless one accidently hits "stop". However, I see that the issue was rectified in Decca's "Legends" reissue.
