A reprieve, friends

Today, the last day of school, I was informed that I will not be "needed" for the music program next year after all. To make a long story short, I found a little-used clause in the music certification requirements which requires three methods courses which in spite of my two degrees I do not have (or want to have). In other words, they made a mistake when they certified me in music in the first place. The administration found another little-used clause which says that at their discretion they can assign any teacher to teach any subject. The issue, thanks to the union and the efforts of the "real" music teacher who was involuntarily transferred, went up to the district level and guess who, at the last minute, won?

Let me make it clear that I was not let go. They're going to have to find some combo of math and social studies for me, which is no problem. I know that I can teach every high school course in those subjects.

Be happy for me, and a week from today I'll be posting from Stony Creek.

Glad to her the good news, John - that must be a load off your back, and enable you to enjoy your Summer here.

Let me second all the foregoing comments. You were always on the side of the Angels in your struggles. This is great news!

So until the place closes, if it closes, you will remain our man in Bamberg?

Thank you one and all. Your correspondent in Bamberg lacks only the ambition to attend sufficient events worthy of correspondence. :)

Thank you , Ralph. The odd thing is that at this point I have had so many consultations with the departing music teacher (and remember I did do chorus last year) that when they do hire someone (hopefully qualified) to cover the basic program (chorus and band) I'm going to have to be that person's mentor in terms of orientation around the facility, and the school has an excellent music suite. No one will make me do it, but the bottom line is kids and music.

That's okay! If anything in Bamberg ever does pop, you will be our go-to guy. :D
