Shampoo fragrance from cow manure???
Japanese Scientists said they have developed a process using high pressure and heat to extract gasoline from cow manure. (AP/Seattle Post-Intelligencer, March 3)

Researchers said they are able to extract 1.4 milliliters (.042 ounces) of gasoline from every 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of cow dung. They hope the technology can be used commercially within five years. Japanese scientists also announced they have developed a process to extract vanillin, the aromatic ingredient of vanilla, from cow dung using a pressure cooker.

The extracted vanillin can be used as a fragrance in shampoos and candles. Japan produces about a half billion tons of cow manure every year.

What about dog dung? There's so much of it available in major cities.

For gasoline, if my math is right:

At a yield of 1.4 ml gasoline for each 100 Gm. of dung, and if you wanted to fill up an 18 gallon capacity gas tank, you are going to need around 10,760 pounds of manure. That means a lot of cow/dog dung and a lot of illegals to scoop it up.

Now I know why the dollar store's vanilla wafers are so much cheaper than those in supermarkets.
