What happened to Good Music Guide?

Post by aquariuswb » Wed Nov 08, 2006 8:22 am

I'm mostly a lurker around here, but I was wondering if any GMG members have been having problems connecting over the past few days. When I try to visit the website, I get a message that says something to the effect of "Database error, try again later."

Am I banned? Or is this happening to everybody?

You and me both. Can't access GMG either :( . I think the site must be down - that, or a spate of blackballing.

Greetings to all. The GMG site appears to be down -- the forum owner is away on vacation, and probably hasn't noticed the outage yet (either that or they're having technical difficulties). I'm not one of the mods, but having read many of your posts I can't imagine any reason why either of you would be banned -- that's extremely rare, and if you had been banned you'd certainly know about it, there's a whole process that they follow for that sort of thing. So no worries, it'll be back.

Regards,
jwinter

I have been having the same problem. I didn't think I was banned, but I thought it might be a problem with my server, as I also can't get into Buzzen chat rooms, where I used to be something of a regular.

Is anyone else here a member of Buzzen? What has your experience been?

I can get in just fine. We all are having a fun conversation at the moment talking about all of you all who got banned. BTW Eric (Pink Harp) just came out and pronounced that Lutoslawski's music has a refined aristicratic sensuality, and anyone who does not agree lacks this trait.

I'm sure there's been no banning; but one can see how Paul (in his mysterious, winsome say) took it into his head, once upon a time, that he was supposedly banned 8)

I'm more concerned about not hearing from Corlyss for a number of days. She's the one (with great help of course from our other noble moderator Lance) who keeps this site superior by not taking any BS.

That persistent thumping sound you are hearing, BTW, is MM and MS lying prone and banging their fists and legs in a full-blown tantrum because they can't get their fix of nastiness with GMG down.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

MM & MS? Mickey Mouse & Multiple Sclerosis? Don't worry, John...as long as yahoo's around there'll always be a venue for nastiness.
"Most men, including those at ease with problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth if it would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, which they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabric of their lives." ~Leo Tolstoy

The initials of (the real names of) two particular offenders. Believe me, you don't really want to know.

You know perfectly well who I mean (you were a short inch of being added to the list yourself, but he that hath repented....), and I don't see the connection with Yahoo unless you mean Gulliver's Travels.

Well MM is going to work his way through college now. So now he has too much life to live for gmg these days. Which is awesome. :D

Woops I didn't see the point where you said real names. I was taking MM to be Mozart Mobster.

Yeah okay I know the two that you're talking about now. And they are indeed cranky. They make me look like an amateur of crankiness!

When I grow old, I don't want to be like that, I would rather prefer to be happy instead and have a sense of humor. :)

Oh, so that's who MM is (I didn't know his family-name-initial)! :-)

GMG is back up. I like it better here, too, but I am fairly active there, too. Still, I joined both at about the same time and am approaching 1700 posts here, and only have a little under 500 posts there. Its not so much that ther people over there are nasty, its just that there are lots of people over there, like goberomo, for example, who seem to think its all about them.

Glad to hear you've repented, John. That prissy, self-righteous persona had worn rather thin. And thanks for explaining who MM is, but I'm still clueless about MS. Might that be a certain bass player whose aggressive rudeness irritates you as much as your passive-aggressive rudeness irritates him? As for Mel, at least he knows he's an obnoxious jerk, and he does have a sense of humor and can even laugh at himself--and on more than one occasion I've seen him respond kindly and compassionately to youngsters going through a difficult time.

Gee, Reb ... it makes me hugely happy to see a note like this. I'm so glad you like it better here. I am also glad to see our friends at GMG up and running again. There's enough classical music the world over for both our sites! And Reb? Keep up your good work on CMG!
