I'm looking forward to Volume 8 of the Weiss series with Robert Bbarto.

Are these the U.S. releases? I've noticed that Naxos seems tor release discs in other parts of the world before the U.S.

Yes these are all US releases and will be available at the end of january. So save up all the gift cards and chirstmas money till then!

Ralph, the alsop brahms is fantastic. I snagged a promo copy and listened to it over the break and really enjoyed it. It's on par with the first two.

Yes, some of these look interesting, particularly the Boris Tchaikovsky and the Hailstork symphonies. It is amazing that Naxos has managed to corral so much American conducting talent: Gerard Schwarz, Leonard Slatkin, Marin Alsop (a biggie), JoAnne Falletta.

What is interesting is that Klaus Heymann has said many times that he expected to be put out of business by the majors within five years by a flood of reissues at budget or super-budget price with big name performers. Didn't happen.

Naxos totally changed the classical music business by breaking the "superstar" model.

Delighted to see that the 18th Century Series finally got around to Pichl. I have his Chandos "Contemporaries of Mozart" disk and it is really fine. I think Ralph would find him giving Ditters a run for his money!!

Also If I remember correctly for another couple threads there are some people here who are big fans of Allan Pettersson. CPO is releasing a box set of his complete symphonies and will be available in January as well. it's a 12 disc box set. That's a lot of Pettersson!!

Maybe, maybe not. You'll have to listen and see. I have 8 Ditters disks, but only 1 Pichl (soon to be 2!). Oh, did you know, Ralph, that the two were best of friends? Small world.

Boris Tchaikovsky has an unfortunate attribute: his last name! Compared to Eshpai, Gubaidulina, etc., his recordings can be difficult to find both physically and virtually. I greatly enjoy what I have previously acquired (mostly on Russian Disc) and very much look forward to the Naxos issue of his first symphony. By the way, Modernistfan, I also look forward to crossing paths with you on this forum in the near future.

Indeed, some time ago only few recordings with the music of Boris Tchaikovsky were available (primary on Russian Dics, where BT's works always were combined with another composers).
But during 2003-2007 already 15 CDs were released by different labels, including Hyperion, Chandos, Albany, Relief.

Excepting two CDs (from Haenssler Classics and "Eastern Wind"), the rest issues were with more or less participation of our Society.
And we extremely gratefull to Naxos for two CDs: the 1st was last year CD with Piano Concerto, Clarinet Concerto and "Signs of the Zodiac". To record and issue BT's First Symphony was one of our dreams and we are happy that this became possible! On the CD with First Symphony also there are premiere recordings of the music to radio-shows, which were very valuable for composer.
We hope, the recordings will be warmly met!

Better still the Petterson's were realeased as early as in December 2006.
And it is hard not to like Petterson. Once playing it is hard to stop. Currently I am collecting all I can from him, and lots is on the CPO label.
There can never be enough Petterson in my opinion.

I just figured I would bring this back to the top to remind everyone of what's available next week from Naxos. Also for those inclined to downloading the three Alsop releases (Brahms 3, Carmina Burana, and Heroes symphony) are all pre-released on itunes.

Pichl, Hmmmmmmmm, Naxos, I ordered it! Have to wait and see right.
Having really a nice bottle of champagne on my left hand, and a crystal glass in the other hand, a bit like Ditters & Pichl.
