Your favourite YouTube clips

The Net has been a vast musical boon, not only because of forums such as CMG but because of how much music of today and the past is available at a click. This thought came upon me as I clicked on the Barenboim Mozart posted by Saul here just now.

Some of my favourites are Grumiaux, Paderewski, Cortot, Shostakovich, Rubinstein, Gilels, Argerich, Furtwangler, all as performers. Unfortunately I don't know how to add a Youtube link here. But many of you obviously do. I'd love to see some of your favourites.

I'm sure that somebody has posted a video on You Tube showing you how to post a video on You Tube...

Kidding aside, just drag the http address into your post, then click on the preview button, the link will have shortened and changed to blue and if you click it and it works you succeeded...

Actually, here's how I do it, and I figured it out by trial and error:

Highlight the Youtube URL and copy. Open your "reply" page on CMG, click on the Img button above, and paste the URL in between. Then shorten it to only the v number (IOW delete the v= as well)

That works with Firefox. Internet Explorer insists on deselecting the current address if you click on "copy." But between what you figured out for yourself and what I just wrote, I think you're "in."

It worked fine, but, if you are on a Mac then you can't get the You Tube Screen into a post, just the link...

You don't actually need the letters "&feature=related". Essentially you need only include something like this in your post:

. The number "ZCeEegoH-ic" identifies the particular youtube video. Including the words

[youtube]videoID[/youtube]

trigger the display of a youtube video in your post, much the same as including

Code: Select all

[b]text to bold[/b]

will make "text to bold" appear in bold.

Do a search sometime on OSKAR FISCHINGER.

Fischinger was a pioneering animator of the 20s and 30s whose early experiments in synchronizing mesmerizing visual effects to "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," "Night on Bald Mountain" and others, really aren't too far from approaching blowing Disney out of the water.

The great part about YouTube (and the internet in general) is that if you can think of it, you can find it.

Here's an arrangement of Bach's Prelude in C minor from Book I of the WTC. (I've probably posted this before.)

And for the non-guitarists here, that is INCREDIBLY hard to do.

I think there's nothing on this forum you can't do on a Mac, just do as Henry suggests (same with pics, etc.)... Here's the video barney posted about.

Marvellous stuff. Thank you all.

This afternoon I'll try to embed some of mine, and look at all these. I spent a marvellous hour (between 12.30am and 1.30am, so I paid for it in the morning) investigating historic accounts of the Rachmaninov prelude I posted: Richter, Gilels, Ashkenazy, Horowitz, Prokofiev, Lang Lang (weird) and more.
