I just listened to Prosperous (twice), it's one of the most beautiful recordings I have ever heard...followed that with an Atlantic Compilation from the Mid Eighties, including Biko Drum, his Songwriting is still great, but, the voice is long gone...

For tomorrow night it's the Bothy Band's first two LP's and in the daytime Altan which will get played at work, there is not that much substance so the Worker Bees can listen to it...they don't like Donovan, but, they love Van The Man...

Actually i'm filling out some gaps in my Celtic Collection which was mainly Eric Bell, The Chieftans, Clancy Brothers, Enya and Clannad, same with American Folk Music I had a number of discs but not many of the Protest Singers, my collection is pretty thorough and these two areas had some missing discs...

My Donovan Collection remains at just the Compilation... oh, I passed on Val Doonican BTW...

I don’t know if anybody here remembers her but as a nipper in the late ‘60s I was captivated by her voice and I thought that she was gorgeous!

I certainly remember Mary Hopkin.

BTW Paul McCartney suggested that The Moody Blues record Those Were The Days – the idea was knocked by Graham Edge because (even though he recognised the song’s hit potential) he didn’t want the band to be identified as “pop”, as they were trying to develop the prog-rock thing by that stage and another big “pop” hit would set back the band’s plans.

Here second album on Apple - Earth Song, Ocean Song is absolutely fantastic, she was married to my old friend Tony Visconti (Record Producer - Bolan, Bowie, Thin Lizzy etc )...in fact their daughter just released her first record, here is the link for Mary's second album...

Nick Drake is an artist that unfortunately, somehow, passed me by. This is surprising to me Mark as I was really interested in and played quite a lot of that style of music in my distant youth.

The Mono Box is practically the only non-vinyl Beatles purchase I've ever made, so my input is not any matter of comparison.

I look at the Beatles' career in two phases; the first phase up to and including Revolver and those after it until the end. Revolver was the best by far of the first phase and Abbey Road was the best of the rest IMHO and is probably my favourite overall. I loved the direction that they were going with Abbey Road; such a pity that it all fell apart at that point. There is excellent music on Let It Be but as a complete whole it bears no relation to Abbey Road.

That's because the pressure of making the Film of Let it Be was immense and making good music proved very difficult to achieve, (I tried filming Pete Townshend making an Album, that was pretty boring too) so most of it was actually recorded before Abbey Road...so Abbey Road is really their Final Album, they went out in style if you look at it chronologically...

I spent the day with some classics from one of my favourite saxophonists, Art Pepper. This is an astonishing series of records that the great man recorded in the late Fifties. One of the greatest masters of the ballad, he could break your heart like few others.

And then this wonderful, yet heartbreaking DVD:

What a fabulous way to see out 2010.
