I bought this box set a few years ago and have not listened to it much since then. I returned to it earlier this week and listened to the Fifth and this is a lovely colourful performance, I particularly like the writing for, and the sound of the woodwinds, especially the clarinets and flutes. The Ninth is very good too but it's not my favourite performance.

Unfortunately it is Jared but not due to lack of composers or talent I must add. There is a thriving musical scene over here but unfortunately the market is so small it does not justify the expense of the recordings and distribution etc. The result is that few of them get onto CD and those that do end up costing the likes of me quite a lot of money to buy as a result

I have great affection for Krystian Zimerman´s first recording of the Chopin concertos. His pianism was already godlike, and Giulini is the perfect partner for him (as he was NOT for Horowitz in the DG Mozart piano concerto #23 with La Scala). Sure there are other great recordings, notably Argerich with Dutoit, a more volatile and dangerous Chopin, but Zimerman is so musical and aristocratic that whenever I return to this recording it´s always a delight.

Highly enjoyable! These period influenced performances on modern instruments strike a nice middle road between the archaic Munchinger/Marriner type performances and the sometimes overly fast and, at times, harsh performances of Goebel/MAK and the like. I consider myself a HIP fan in Baroque music but this set will absolutely receive repeated listening from yours truly.

Is there a better rendition of the Berg Violin Concerto than this Leonid Kogan's recording? I've always loved Szeryng's, but this one surpasses him with its profundity and solemness of the sound. Right now am listening to Hindemith with Oistrakh. His Stravinsky - still ahead. What a CD.

Hello everyone. Long time to see.

I listened to the superb Symphonie Fantastique and the Carnival Overture by Berlioz with the LSO conducted by Colin Davis

Davis is a fantastic Berlioz conductor, in my opinion.
