Noel Coward's Present Laughter

Legendary Academy Award and Tony Award winner Kevin Kline made his eagerly awaited return to Broadway in 2017 with a Tony-winning performance in Noel Coward’s outrageously irresistible backstage comedy. With a spectacular cast headed by Kate Burton (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy), Kristine Nielsen (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike), and Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) in her Broadway debut, Present Laughter follows a self-obsessed actor in the midst of a mid-life crisis. Juggling his considerable talent, ego and libido, the theater’s favorite leading man suddenly finds himself caught between fawning ingenues, crazed playwrights, secret trysts, and unexpected twists.

Interesting thing about Noel Coward. He was flamboyantly homosexual, but also a very good actor. You would never guess his basic orientation from his performance in the classy WW II propaganda movie In Which We Serve.

Irrelevantly, I note that this is the post that took me past 26,000. Actually, I surpassed that some time ago because I lost a number of posts the last time the site had a crash. Nevertheless, it has been an honor to be here for this long, with this many posts. As I have stated before, I have learned 100 more times from other members than I can ever hope to impart.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

I love Kevin Kline and he trained in classical piano!! He always hits the right note when acting, that's for sure. And he's so very classy. I adored him in this film - and in that sizzling Armani suit!! OH - MY - GOD!! And this song is a masterpiece.

Kevin Kline was the best pirate king ever in Pirates of Penzance. And Linda Ronstadt was the most fetching Mabel. I love that production.
