An opera based on "War of the Worlds" itself, by Wells rather than Welles, depicting an actual alien invasion, would be something. To base it on a radio broadcast which, as we know, was a Hallowe'en prank gone wrong, seems to me rather pointless.

Irrelevantly, the location of the invasion was Princeton, or nearby. Also, there was a TV series War of the Worlds. The effects of the flying machines from the old movie were so good that the TV series did not try to improve on them.
There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

I'd certainly go. It sounds imaginative and different, and I don't mind a few misses among my concert going, to throw the hits into high relief.
