Hyperion 68217, 73:23 — Romantic Piano Concerto No. 75

I've been collecting Hyperion's ever-popular Romantic Piano Concerto series from the beginning. Now comes Beethoven's secretary/friend/pupil, Ferdinand Ries (1784-1838) with three of his works masterfully performed by Piers Lane, The Orchestra Now, Leon Botstein conducting. Just about any of Beethoven's teachers, pupils, and counterparts have something to offer from these golden days of piano performance and Ries is right at the top (I feel the same about Czerny). I suppose if one is going to write in a particular style, and still retain one's individuality, Beethoven (or Mozart) are outstanding acts from which to draw one's inspiration. Hyperion does a superb job in these presentations of concertos, outstanding notes, high-quality pianists/pianos/orchestra/conductors/sound.

Put this on your "to buy" list.

Done! Thanks Lance! I've long been a champion of Czerny, now I'll be happy to explore these works as well. :)
