Maria Joao-Pires live in 1976
Re: Maria Joao-Pires live in 1976
This was an excellent concert, and the sound quality was quite good on my computer: Thanks, Rach3 for a most enjoyable listen. Joao-Pires is not a pianist I have followed extensively, but this recital has piqued my interest. Her complete solo recordings have been issued in the set pictured above for around $55 on amazon. I must point out that her Chopin Preludes were extraordinarily well-played to my ears. The encore worked perfectly well.
Re: Maria Joao-Pires live in 1976
Might want to start with her Schubert and Mozart.
Re: Maria Joao-Pires live in 1976
She made tons of recordings for Erato, solo and concerto, including the complete Mozart sonatas. Looks like DG has picked up the Erato solo recordings. Maybe the concertos will follow, mostly Mozart.

My first recording of hers ( I have only one other, an encore-type cd ) was an Erato lp of the Schubert D.960 Sonata ( still perhaps my fav of that work ) and Op.90,Nos.3 and 4 Impromptus , which I found in a Walgreens Drug Store discount bin , still shrink-wrapped,for 99 cents , about the time cd’s were emerging.

One of her notable students ( who I believe also attended her former Portuguese “ farm” school ) is young pianist Justin Libeer, who now has his own career :
