Shostakovich's "The Bedbug"

Post by Modernistfan » Sat Aug 29, 2020 12:36 pm

I just listened to a recently-issued Naxos CD (8.574100) with Shostakovich's incidental music to Vladimir Mayakovsky's bizarre play, "The Bedbug" (sometimes translated into English as "The Flea"). If you love the early Shostakovich of "The Age of Gold" and "The New Babylon," you need to get this! It is coupled with a somewhat more conventional score, the film music for "Love and Hate."

I'll put on the list for this week. That is to say, there is no list, but I plan to listen in accordance with your prompt.

Coincidentally, listened it to the first time on Friday too. It's fun isn't it?
