Am I the only one who's noticed Barry has never commented on the compositions of Frederick the Great? Perhaps that's a gap in his musical knowledge.

Barry's as fine a gentleman as I ever hope to meet on the net or anywhere. Thoughtful, respectful, passionate, articulate, and steadfast in his moderation, rarely thrown off his courtly manner by contentious antagonists or dubious collaborators, his heart is always in the right place. If I had a son, I'd want him to be just like Barry, politics and all (otherwise there'd be nothing to discuss at the dinner table when I could persuade him to ride out to the burbs to have Sunday dinner with me

BTW, assembled co-conspirators, I think we are very near BZ's birthday. I believe he's hitting the big nn and righteously planning his future midlife crisis. One thing of which I am absolutely certain? It don't involve a screamin' red Ferrari that can do 1-100 pedestrians in 60 seconds flat.

Whether out of native caution, or whether some solicitous soul alerted him to the danger ... in the event, Barry opted for the sonically neutral turf of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston to meet with your servant ....

Thank you for the kind thought, Ralph, and I look forward to the pleasure of that meeting, as well. The MoMA exhibit for which we are hoping to make a New-Yorkly occasion, runs into September.

It was a pleasure to meet Karl. My only disappointment at the MOMA was that much of it was closed because we were there late in the day. I'd love to see that coming Ansel Adams exhibit, but probably won't be back there until the spring, when I intend to attend a BSO concert at Symphony Hall (I'm looking at the Temirkanov program at the end of March).

I mentioned some of my dining experiences on another thread, but the highlights included the Union Street Oyster House, a little Italian plance in the North End, a great Thai meal, and for Ralph, a great dim sum lunch at a place called Empire Garden in Chinatown. It's in a former theater, so the room is huge, and there were seemingly endless carts of dim sum treats that came by our table.

In Connecticut, we hit a great roadfood place called Danny's Drive-In in Stratford, as well as one of the last five or six Howard Johnson restaurants in existance. It was exciting to see that blue and orange steeple again! I was there for breakfast, but plan on going back some time (a friend of mine lives near there, so I'll probably be back in the area) for lunch or dinner to get the fried clams.

I think we miss that one (Musorgsky, Prelude to Khovanshchina / Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D w/Joshua Bell / Brahms Symphony No. 4 in E minor) ... but let me know when you're in town, and we'll pu' the gowans fine ....

Of course, I thought about going to see Levine conduct. And the one time I saw him live, his last visit with the Philly O, he was extremely impressive. But Temirkanov is my kind of conductor. He really knows how to build the type of sound that I like. And that program is a nice one as well. He'll be conducting the Brahms 2nd here in Philly in October, so I'll get half a Brahms cycle from his next season.

It does but I probably have the Philharmonic on that night.

Any weekend trip I take doesn't get planned until a few days earlier. Too much to do here, especially with my part-time day job as a chauffeur for my kid.

I thought hard about heading up there for that one since I've never seen the Shosty 8th live, but I've already scheduled vacation time for November, so it will have to wait until the spring.
