Yes, I heard that you don't kiss and tell! So, when do I get mine?Auntie Lynn wrote:I attended a number of his recitals and after one, I went backstage to get his autograph and invited him out for a drink - but then, I don't kiss and tell...ask anybody...
And were you impressed with Mr. Rabin?

I wish book publishers would do that, i.e., when the 2nd hand price gets to be astronomical, reissue. I can think of half a dozen titles Herr Direktor is looking for that reissue would benefit his pocketbook greatly.aurora wrote:EMI will apparently be re-releasing their 6 CD Michael Rabin collection in October. I got mine used a while back for a reasonable price but lately this set was getting to be quite the hot-commodity on E-bay

Why don't they just have Pink Martini play arrangements of some of the Divertimenti, and make a clean job of it?

Well, I'm not going to complain. I got my 6-CD copy in a mall store near Atlanta, Ga. for about $50 some years ago. For those interested, the catalogue number is EMI 64123.oisfetz wrote:Today on Ebay on auction. Ends in hour and half. At the moment, 21 bids,

There were three other EMI CDissues:
1) 63660 - Strings by Starlight
2) 64560 - Paganini: 24 Caprices
3) 67020 - Mosaics with pianist Leon Pommers
Don't forget about Columbia/Sony's Rabin's "The Early Years" (Debut Recordings) on the Heritage series: 60894, which I purchased in Washington, D. C. in July of 1999 whilst checking out the Tower Records store with Corlyss. Remember those days, Lyss?

When this set was first issued on CD it was criticized (I believe in Fanfare) for not obtaining the finest source material from EMI or Capitol (it was produced by Electrola). The Paganini Caprices are in mono (they have been available on LP in stereo from Capitol and Seraphim) and perhaps could have been better mastered, although I cannot comment on this point as much of this material I've never seen in its original form.Lance wrote: Well, I'm not going to complain. It will be interesting to see if the re-issued recordings are an improvement. Rabin is one of my favorite violinists. I only wish he had made more recordings, but it was a different time. Maybe Capitol/EMI have some approved but unreleased items.
