Trifonov a bit studied here, not as rambunctious or spontaneous as Argerich or my fav Serkin / Ormandy / PO 50’s Columbia lp, but Trifonov did not have here the benefit of editing.Glad to hear Trifonov has added this still too little played work to his repertoire. Interesting Trifonov compared some the “Burlesque’s” piano writing to the piano writing in the last mov. of the Prokofieff 2nd PC, saying the Strauss difficulties were not “ insurmountable “ as were difficulties in the Prok #2, although I assume he does actually surmount the Prok problems. The “Burlesque “ , Trifonov interview , start about 36 minutes in :
Richard Strauss:
Also sprach Zarathustra, op. 30
Burlesque in D minor, AV 85, for piano and orchestra
Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche, op. 28
Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra
Conductor Mariss Jansons
Daniil Trifonov, piano
