Was thinking of posting my recordings of the last three Beethoven sonatas on CMG. Do you think that's a good idea or not?

New Isler YouTube Channel

If anyone's interested: I have a new YouTube channel for my performances. Some of them are live, others are from CD's. For example, there are the last three Beethoven sonatas, two works of Chopin, an interview and one four hand work each by Mozart and Schubert, which I played with my good friend, Ar...

Re: Does the "younger" set prefer new or older recordings?

I don't know how representative this is, but there is interest in historic recordings, and classes about them at some important schools. Allan Evans used to give such talks at Mannes College, and other places, and Mark Ainley still does. Lisa Yui has a course about historic pianists at Manhattan Sch...

Re: Bruno Walter 77-CD complete edition, Sony

Not being a serious collector I'm not going to buy this. But the name Bruno Walter reminds me of a few stories. 1) Dad had an uncle who was not a musician, but loved music, and thought he knew better than other people what was good. The conductor's name was originally Bruno Walter Schlesinger. This ...

Bruce Hungerford Interviews Pianist Elsie Hall

In this 1963 recording my teacher, Bruce Hungerford, interviews the Australian-born pianist, Elsie Hall (1877-1976), who spent most of her adult life in South Africa. A child prodigy who made her London debut in 1890, she met Clara Schumann, Brahms, Joachim, G.B. Shaw and had all sorts of remarkable...

There was one very well-known pianist on the faculty of Manhattan School of Music in my day who was famous, or, I should say, infamous for the way he treated many women. I won't print his name here, but he certainly wouldn't get away with such things today.
