A very sad day indeed

I'm just so sorry I couldn't get to see her live.

Verdi as a composer of opera is certainly not to be sniffed at. He is, however, not even marginally in the same class as Mozart and Wagner -- Mozart because he alone among opera composers used without change all the outward trappings of the essentially non-dramatic Italian opera form, and made of i...

Because Mozart excepted, Wagner is the greatest composer of opera who ever lived, and his dramatic ideas and his music have shaped Western opera and all of Western music since. Period. Full stop. Much as I admire and often enjoy Wagner's music, I wouldn't put him above Verdi. Verdi's works, especia...

He and his wife lost a 16 year old son in a car accident around ten years ago.

Lucia Popp was a great artist. Before making such definitive statements about an artist (or anyone), one should be acquainted with them.

"Extreme Nessun Dorma"--A CD put together by a friend, of a bunch of tenors singing the famous aria from Turandot. Most sing it pretty well even Andrea Bocelli--but not Michael Bolton. What - do you mean to tell me that no one has listened to the beautiful Met broadcast of The Barber of Seville ?
What's the matter with you folks :? .
Based on the above listening list, I think you're all taken up with too much tuneless music.

Thanks

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I have a lot of catching up to do.

I might be visiting the Big Apple again this year and hopefully, Frank, we will be able to meet again.

And Ralph, how's the penthouse. Is it vacant or did you take it over yet?

And where is Mel?

Warmly,
Ellie
