There is a nice concert on now at: http://whyy.org/91FM/live.html

Sawallisch and the Philadelphia Orchestra are playing the Grieg concerto with Yundi Li and Schubert's 9th. I was at the concert a few weeks ago (only for the Schubert actually).

The sound on this computer obviously is nothing like being there, but it's just such a pleasure to hear the Philadelpia when Sawallisch is on the podium. He gets such great balance. The brass doesn't blast over the strings, and the strings have such depth. Everything blends together wonderfully. Since he started coming back as Conductor Laureate last season, every concert I've seen by Sawallisch (there have been five programs led by him that I've attended the past two seasons) has been a memorable one. I'm continually amazed that he keeps getting better at his age (he's in his early 80s). He really struck me as your basic kappelmeister during his early years in Philadelphia.

Sorry I missed it. By a strange coincidence, the Grieg was on XM too.

You didn't miss it. The Greig is on now, to be followed by the Schubert.
