Tell Ted (nee Teddy) that the word is 'scholarship' since his grades are good/great, and the more expensive the school, the bigger the scholarships are, 25 - 40k/year at USC is possible. :D Happy bidding.

The reality as I've learned it is that scholarship money largely goes to recruit students who otherwise couldn't attend. Parental income has to be disclosed. I'm hardly rich but poor I'm not either. If I have to list my book and CD holdings it's all over! :(

But hope srpings eternal. He's definitely applying to Columbia and some of the other Ivies.

Not to worry Ralph; Mr. Heifetz is no longer playing so, in your own words, no longer to be listened to.

Cheers!

I'm going to have to pass this one up too. I've been exceptionally rash and self indulgent this month.

What words? What are you talking about? I have many hundreds of CDs of demised musicians and conductors. But I do not have a pantheon of the Great Gone where entrance by a living and perhaps young person is denied. My Mount Olympus has a lot of open ledges. :)

I thought the complete Heifetz Edition was still being made available. Apparently it isn't. I have enjoyed my HE for quite some time. Both this and the Artur Rubinstein Edition are items that shold have been left in the catalogues indefinitely. The Rubinstein at least is being made available on a piece-by-piece basis. I would think the same for Heifetz. Once again, it's all about money.

An interesting take on this subject appeared in today's Plain Dealer-- Here's how to get more aid for college. Probably nothing here you don't already know, though.

I have to admit, I wondered if the adjective Complete was not in fact a verb, and the subject header, an imperious command:

Pretty soon I’m going to make my money back, given the fact that I paid out about $400.00 Canadian Dollars eight or so years ago to HMV in Toronto (they had a sale on that week) for the set which is a gold-mine of great violin playing.

So - what did the set garner at the end?

It's an incredible set, the Heifetz, as is the Rubinstein.

Yes, best part of his concertos and other pieces with orchestra are on Naxos or other labels, but his chamber recordings are not, like Bach's solo works, LvB sonatas, Bloch, Saint Saens, Mozart etc., and a hundred of short pieces. And IMO Heifetz was unique on those short pieces :D :D :D
