Pianist Beatrice Rana

Post by Rach3 » Thu Sep 06, 2018 9:32 am

I believe recorded at BBC in March,2017. A pianist I follow, but had not heard her in these works that I recall . She played the Clementi during the 2013 Cliburn Competition ( she was Silver medal I think.) I suspect these are one-takes even though in studio.

Muzio Clementi ,
Sonata in B minor Op.40, No.2
Claude Debussy ,
Pour le piano

Franz Liszt ,
Sonata in B minor, S.178

Worth a listen.

Thanks for posting that! Beatrice Rana (which, while a common name, means "frog" in Italian & Spanish!) is a star, and should have taken gold. I have the above recording and plan to get her take on the Goldberg Variations as well.

Beatrice Rana's musicianship is absolutely awesome in both of these. She should definitely record a Chopin Scherzo album.

I disagreed violently with the Van Cliburn judges' opinion: she should have been First, without a doubt. Just listen to her recording from that year.

So, has anyone else heard the miraculous violin selection following Rana's "La valse?

Here's a young Russian lad, Teo Gertler, who can't be more than 11 years old, playing Sarasate's "Gypsy Tunes" with a fully mature technique and understanding in 2019. There is also a Mendelssohn Violin Concerto available.

This young man is a musical miracle.

Here's the Sarasate from 2019:

....and here's the Mendelsohn also from 2019:

When next in the mood for Ravel's "Miroirs" , hers from her 2019 Warner cd is stunning:

This is my fav solo piano work of Ravel, have recordings by Robert Casadesus, Herbert Schuch, I think Richter, couple others, sorely tempted here, but the Stravinsky pairings on the cd are not attractive for me.

I do like the Petroushka, but the Firebird just doesn't work for me. Firebird really needs the sonorities of the various instruments to be effective, IMHO. Nevertheless, Rana is spectacular in everything she plays, so I'm now reconsidering adding this CD to my library.

It seems my wish for a new Chopin Scherzos CD has been granted. Just found this cover of Rana's latest project to be released in September of this year, a Chopin CD of the 4 Scherzi and the Op. 25 Etudes. I will pre-order it immediately from Presto.

Addendum: The Scherzo No. 3 and a couple of the Etudes that have already been recorded are available on Spotify as of today.
