. . . you may not realize that you also have free access via Amazon Prime Video to a pretty good selection of symphonies, operas and recitals on video, many in HD. I didn't till very recently. I bought the Amazon Fire TV Stick for under $30 hooked it up to my HDTV in about 10 minutes and was in business.
Highlights so far:
Oistrakh & Richter - Tully Hall Recital c. 1970
Grigory Sokolov 2 recitals, rare on video (2002 and 2012)
Yuja Wang - Rach 2, solo recital of Liszt-Schubert and Scriabin, and a Brahms duo recital with Kavakos)
Daniil Trifonov - Chopin 2
Khatia Buniatishvili - Rach 3
Evgeny Kissin - Chopin 2 and a recital
Wagner from Bayreuth
Mozart from Salzburg (1960's)
Abbado/BPO Beethoven, Brahms and Mahler
Berlin Philharmonic - 3 Waldbühne concerts
Beverly Sills La Traviata and Roberto Devereux
much more

I sometimes buy from Amazon and have been tempted-still I have a roku hooked up to my TV with access to YouTube-there are so many choices to get to videos right now it's hard to decide what to have. Then there's so much just on PBS alone and now of course CNN due to Trump news. Regards, Len

I watch YouTube a lot on a small computer monitor, but for a large-format HDTV, the video and sound quality on Prime Video is so far superior as to make YT unwatchable.

Yes I like to watch you tube on my big TV downstairs in our great room-a comfortable chair and big screen is better than watching on my upstairs computer. Actually, I can't tolerate most YT videos on a 55" screen. Not enough resolution in those heavily compressed files to transfer well to the big screen. They look fine, though, on a 13" monitor. And of course, YouTube being free will give you a massive amt to choose from.lennygoran wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2017 7:03 amYes I like to watch you tube on my big TV downstairs in our great room-a comfortable chair and big screen is better than watching on my upstairs computer. Interesting-I'll have to take another look-the you tube I've watched seemed good to me-it streams down from my wifi router upstairs--actually I don't use the Roku that much-I have so many programs to catch up on on my DVR. Also I find I'm watching more and more CNN-I'm hooked. Regards, Lenjserraglio wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2017 7:07 amActually, I can't tolerate most YT videos on a 55" screen. Where exactly did you find this list of symphonies, concertos, etc.? I subscribe to Amazon Prime and watch free films on my TV by going into The streamming channel. But there I only find lists of films, both free and some for rent or even for sale. I have never seen any list of classical musiv items. Where exactly are these thst you mention?

I really stumbled on these videos by accident. There is no master list that I know of.AlanM wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2017 8:17 amWhere exactly did you find this list of symphonies, concertos, etc.? Okay. I ran across them on the Firestick But if you don't have that you can install the Amazon Prime Video app on your phone or tablet.
And If you dont have any of those, just log in to Amazon, click Prime at top right menu, then click Prime Video, then enter something in the search box, e.g., Claudio Abbado. When I did that I got 22 Abbado videos with the Prime banner at the top left of the thumbnail, indicating that they are free to watch just like a film would be.
When I entered Lang Lang I got only one relevant hit, but from there a whole slew of relevant videos (Kissin, Wang, Trifonov, Argerich, Fray, Matsuev, Friere, etc.) were listed under Customers who watched this item also watched . . .
If you find a better way, pls lmk.

Thank you. I followed your instructions, went to the Amazon site on my TV, did a search, and soon after Beethoven's Ninth was on my screen. I may get a Roku to make it all easier. (I have a 4 year old Panasonic plasma. It's smart but too many steps are involved.).
Now can someone tell me if the Roku goes into Youtube and enables one to find a specific item, such as Kaufmann singing a specific aria, which I can easily find on my ipad using google?

Using Firestick, I can easily search YouTube. Costs $35-40. Just saying.

I didn't know that either - thanks for the info. But like Len, I doubt I would use it much. For some reason, concerts and operas on video usually don't do it for me; I want to be in the same space as the performers, or else just listen to the audio.

I rarely watch music videos. But a lot of these from the Verbier Festival have first-class cinematography. I couldn't tear myself away from the Yuja Wang recital even though I intended only to sample it. And the historic Kertész Salzburg Mozart Magic Flute with Berry, Lorengar, Peters, and Kmentt is extraordinary in spite of the dated look of the production.

I do subscribe to Amazon Prime and use it for standard movies. Thanks to everyone for all this additional information.
There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

That Wang recital was presumably broadcast (that is, streamed) by medici.tv. They stream concerts and recitals, etc, usually with better than good sound and picture. Some are no charge to view (it's a subscription service) and I have listened to parts of some on my ipad using Grado headphones and an Audioquest DAC.

I've been waiting for someone to post about medici. Somehow I got on their e-mail list, which I don't mind, but it's hard to figure out what the benefit is if I'm not prepared to watch the concert at live streaming time.AlanM wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2017 3:35 pmThat Wang recital was presumably broadcast (that is, streamed) by medici.tv. Alan I use the remote that came with the roku-you can get to youtube and do a search-the search is a little cumbersome but it works and searches for anything you put in just like a computer does-no keypad so you go to things one letter at a time. There's a way to make it easier with a tablet-I did it a few times but now have forgotten how it works so I just use the cumbersome letter by letter system-it works like a search from my comcast remote would work. After a concert on Medici.com is streamed live, it is available for some time, weeks or more, many times for free. I believe it is their backlog , very large, for what their subscriptions are for. So one doesn't have to stay around just for the original performance.
It's been some time since I looked into Medici.com, so please verify that all is the same when you go to the site
