4th of July pianism
Re: 4th of July pianism
Thanks Steve for a fascinating compilation. If there was ever a more pointless extravaganza than the Gottschalk, I can't imagine what it would be - eight great pianists wasting their time in my view. Horowitz, of course is legendary. I also found the Van Cliburn fascinating - it's the sort of brash patriotism that Australians find uncomfortable - we prefer our nationalism more restrained. But the baseball players could have been Australian: chewing gum, looking dully at the camera and generally seeming very uninterested.
