Two forgotten English pianists on APR

Post by Lance » Mon Jul 12, 2021 4:27 pm

Also arrived, Appian [APR 6035, 2-CDs] of two English pianists I had never heard of: Mr. Evlyn Howard-Jones (complete solo recordings); and Edward Isaacs (complete solo recordings). The booklet is hugely informative as information about these artists is almost nil. Haven't heard the recordings yet, but top people we know are responsible for the restorations. Just a heads-up for you.

When she started to play, Mr. Steinway came down and personally
rubbed his name off the piano. [Speaking about pianist &*$#@+#]

I had heard of and heard Howard-Jones via Mark Ainley's excellent FB page and website - The Piano Files. Isaacs is new to me

Fascinating, thanks to both of you. So I now have my piano listening for today all lined up! 😉

That is, after I check out Berezovsky in Rachmaninoff's 1st Sonata.....
