Re: Libetta live
This looks interesting, Steve! Will hear the first recital w/Alkan today if all goes as planned. Thanks!
Re: Libetta live
First recital quite wonderful, thanks! I disagreed with just a couple of bars in the Standchen and L'Isle joyeuse, but the Totentanz was outstanding, as was the Ligeti and everything else in the second half. He's young, so there's not much available commercially here in the USA, but Libetta is a major artist, and I appreciate the introduction. I may buy the DVD just to support him.
Re: Libetta live
Live in Italy, May,2021. A little " rusty" compered to his younger self, but still impressive. I had not heard the posthumous variations for the Schumann played by themselves in a recital, but it works.Once heard a pianist do them all at the very end, after the usual concluding “march” (!) , so the work ended quietly. Atmospheric, operatic Liszt here, perhaps one of the best “Dante” I’ve heard, especially live. Liked what he did with Chopin Op.64,# 2 Waltz, and Op.25,# 12 Etude. The encore I think was his own composition.
