Music at Menlo Festival 2022

Post by Rach3 » Mon Aug 01, 2022 6:50 pm

A wonderful high quality video resource I’ve just learned of, just scratched surface. Wonderful performances by young ,aspiring, unknown but very accomplished artists.

Beethoven, Piano Quartet in E-flat major,Op.16 ( My first hearing, I did not know LvB had written one ) :

Shostakovich, Cello Sonata in D minor,Op.40 ( Great performance ! ) :

Faure,Piano Quintet No.1 in C minor, Op.15 (Recommend with a slightly chilled Grenache and some very mild soft cheese ):

Several more at the site. Apparently, at the last one Aug.5 will be played the Dvorak Piano Quartet, Brahms Piano Quintet, and a Shostakovich string quartet.

That's because Beethoven never wrote a piano quartet. This is an arrangement of his quintet for piano and winds (oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon), which the young Beethoven wrote as a tribute to Mozart's K. 452 for the same instrumentation.
Black lives matter.
