Today's Met Fedora HD Encore In Rockaway
A wonderful opera experience-a fabulous set, traditional and well sung and acted-Yoncheva and Beczala were imo superb! A real tear jerker. BTW our baked Virginia ham and swiss cheese sandwiches on roll were delicious and the theater had about 20 people-may be the largest attendance for any of the Wed encores we've been at so far! I am hearing nothing but RAVE reviews on Fedora - one of my favourite operas. My sister saw it in Georgia and thought it totally outstanding. She said there were six people in the theater. (That is disappointing!) I must see this if it comes to Ithaca, NY, about 50 miles away. No doubt, some of you have the outstanding recordings live and commercial with Magda Olivero?

Not sure. I saw nothing about it and usually hear about these things.

Yes, the Decca [433 033, but subsequently reissued in the one you picture] was stunningly recorded. Olivero can also be heard on Music & Arts [671] in a live performance, 1969 w/Rescigno conducting. Another one w/Olivero can be heard on Opera d'Oro [1260] w/Annovazzi conducting, live 1969. Bella Voce issued Olivero's 1971 live performance [107.205] with Scaglia conducting. As has often been said of Maria Callas that she had the ability to act her roles better than most, no doubt true, though I was not always happy with her vocal qualities rendered. Olivero also had this incredible activing ability that was conveyed through her voice in the most realistic manner of any other singer I know. Particularly the last act of Fedora is thrilling beyond words. I also have the Tebaldi [Opera d'Oro 1272], the CBS/Sony [42181] w/Marton, the DGG [477 8367] w/Gheorgiu and Domingo. But always, my "go-to" recording remains Olivero/Decca for its sheer excitement throughout. Please let me know what you think when you traverse the two you pictured on your post!

Lance I went to the Ithaca movie house site and I see they're doing the Lohengrin the same dates as the same movie house we use in Rockaway NJ so I have to assume the Ithaca place is doing the same HD schedule as we have. Regards, Len
