This Concert was a dream come true, a highlight of my concert-going life. Christian Thielemann was in rare form, coaxing some of the most exquisitely elegant and beautiful string playing from the Vienna players in the Schoenberg. As for Richard Strauss's Alpine Symphony, there is nothing like the Vienna Philharmonic in full cry!
That said, I spotted just three women in the upper strings, and a female double bass player. The 2 harps were, of course young women, as was the organist(!) in the Strauss.
All that said, this is a must-hear, as everyone was at their best last night. The audio streamed live last night, and will be posted quickly and then disappear, so don't miss this.
