Thinking about the great organists

Post by Lance » Tue Apr 09, 2024 10:28 pm

Yes, E. Power Biggs and Virgil Fox ... I followed them on discs and heard them in live concerts. Convinced both were outstanding; Fox brought more visual personality to the front and winning lots of friends. But there are others I have enjoyed and followed: Jane Parker-Smith, Ulrik Spang-Hanssen, Richard Elsasser [met him personally], Christopher Herrick, Carlo Curley, Cameron Carpenter, Michael Murray, Peter Hurford, Helmut Walcha, Simon Preston, Janos Sebestyen. Those seem to be among the more famous ones who have recorded ... there are many others. But one really hot one a time ago was Cameron Carpenter. I hear nothing about him any longer. Anybody know?

Don't think this for a moment. I have this CD by Peter Hurford, which I love. When in Europe I purchased CDs at cathedrals like Stephansdom, Passau. Every Wednesday we went to Peterskirche in Wien for the weekly 3.15pm practice sessions of students from Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien.

Whatever happened to Gillian Weir as we never hear about her?
