This weekend I will be playing a concert with the Avanti Orchestra of the Friday Morning Music Club which will take place in Silver Spring, Maryland. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/avanti-orc ... erelexpmlt
The Tchaikovsky 5th is the only piece on the program that includes clarinets, and so will be the only thing I'm playing on, but there is a very attractive contemporary work which is new to me: Strum, for string orchestra, written in 2006, by Jessie Montgomery. Here is a link to her website: https://www.jessiemontgomery.com/works/
I think it's a fine composition, and I could readily include it in the category of "Contemporary music that Lance would enjoy".Here is a link to a performance of it:

Re: Jessie Montgomery: Strum
Mark - thank you for thinking of me! I will check it out. I DO like some contemporary music. On Wednesday evening, I sat in on a performance at Binghamton University's Festival of the Arts with Hub New Music featuring Michael Avitabile, flutes; Jesse Christeson, cello; Gleb Kanasevich, clarinets; and Meg Rohrer, violin. The music, most composed in 2024, included works by Daniel Banem, Liam Frager, Ali Sadequi, Wen Wen Van Der Wende, Val Lasser, Samane Paya, and, finally, our composer-in-residence's 2023 composition, What if We're Beautiful, by Daniel Thomas Davis, a work I enjoyed very much. Maybe you know some of these people? Hub New Music (formed in 2013) has been called "contemporary chamber blazers" (Boston Globe), and a "prime mover of piping hot 21st century repetoire" (Washington Post).

Lance,
I kind of think of you as a musical version “Mikie” from the Life Cereal commercials. I’ll post a piece to see if “Mikie likes it”.

Hey - "Mikie" just might like it! I will look forward to the piece you post. Did you know any of those artists from Hub New Music, especially Gleb Kanasevich, the clarinetist? They apparently have played in the Washington, D.C. area. You may have even been in the audience!
