Barrymore introduces the soliloquy, from 1929, and explains its context. What strikes me is the English accent of Barrymore - and how much like Lionel he appears when delivering the actual soliloquy!! This scene tells audiences about Richard before he became King Richard III. It's rather wooden up until Barrymore's lines, and during his soliloquy I was reminded of Olivier and his Richard III. I feel Olivier had the depth and dimension missing here from John Barrymore:

Here's Olivier as Richard and he has the subtlety we see in all great actors: he captured the dangerous, unpredictable narcissism of Richard and the restraint he could use when not feeling threatened: "I'm not in the giving vein.....today". Olivier was a musical instrument!
