"Der Schwarze Husar", 1932

This UFA film has been partially restored and has subtitles. It's a intriguing yarn and Conrad Veidt is good as the 'Black Husar'. The cinematographer was Franz Planer, who later went on to shoot "Breakfast at Tiffanys" amongst many other films in the USA (sometimes credited as Frank Planer).

Veidt was 39 years old when this film was made and in the following year he went to England to make "Secrets of the FP-1" - without any English language skills at all!! From what I've read he was very self-conscious about his heavy German accent.

Here he is in his livery for "Der Schwarze Husar". He cut a fine figure with his lanky physique, chiselled features and those absolutely beautiful eyes. Women swooned; not just in the film itself!!
