Starring Conrad Veidt, William Dieterle (who later became an important director in the US), Emil Jannings, Werner Krauss. This a pretty good restoration of a Wiemar Republic film.

Director Paul Leni died in 1929, aged 44, after an infected tooth caused sepsis. Krauss was an anti-semitic Nazi supporter and his reputation was trashed in perpetuity. Some commentators refer to him too kindly as a "controversial figure".
