These two careful scholars actually attended Tea Party meetings and interviewed its members. They show how the G.O.P. was hijacked by the ultra right a decade ago. We are even now living with the consequences in the Age of Trump.

Skocpol and Williamson treat the Tea Party members they interviewed very respectfully and fairly.

And their prose style is straightforward and vibrant, without academic jargon, even though the book is painstakingly researched.
