IMO, one of the great tragedies in English of the past century. I saw it in NYC in 1975, with much of the original cast and Anthony Perkins as Dr. Martin Dysart.

The 1977 Sidney Lumet film with Richard Burton and Peter Firth is worth seeing. I showed it to my AP Lit class this year after we read the play.

Even tho' I warned them beforehand it was not for the faint of heart, they (esp. the 3-4 who hadn't bothered to read the play) were discombobulated by it, and that's putting it mildly.

"This is the craziest thing I've ever seen!" one of them screamed afterwards.
