Musical Quote for Today

"But God has a few of us whom he
whispers in the ear;
The rest may reason and welcome: 'tis we
musicians know.'"
—Robert Browning, poet

What happened on this day in music history?

Apprently nothing of great importance!

David Dubal recently played Maryla Jonas' recording of a mazurka on his program here in New York on WQXR. It was wonderful.

:lol:

Well, I had the pleasure of meeting her once - and have a couple of her recordings on LP. Her accompanist was Diane Richardson, one of the finest I know of recent times, who has a home in the Binghamton area, and still teaches, I believe, at Juiliiard, with her husband, baritone David Clatworthy. Richardson was associated with the NYC Opera as well.Funny you should pick up on the name Stapp! These were very dear friends of mine during my Binghamton University years.

Vianna da Mota: Born 22/4/1868. He was a disciple of Liszt. There are some recordings of his interpretation of Liszt's Totentanz and some of his own works.

As composer he was mediocre.
