Thanksgiving

Post by Lilith » Wed Nov 22, 2006 7:22 am

My favorite holiday..some reasons why:

1> Lack of commercialism
2> A whole day centered around food
3> the concept of the family gathering
4> lack of religious implications

I wish we had 3 or 4 'thanksgivings' every year instead of one.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE

The same to you and to all posters. At least those in the U.S. AND with all best wishes for our servicemen and women enjoying turkey in foreign climes.

And in retrospect, for typically decadent American males, you missed the most compelling reason of all:

Thanksgiving is also my favorite holiday. I call it the four Fs holiday: Family, friends, food and football. The extra helping of the latter was indeed appreciated, at least by some of us; especially considering how poor the two afternoon match-ups were.

Didn't watch a minute of football.

Enjoyed a day (two days, really) with children, grandchildren, many dogs and lotsa food.

I agree that Thanksgiving is the best of the holidays for the precise reasons Lilith lists. (Try saying those last two words without lithping!)
