Fww, Kurt Masur programmed the work for his NYPO debut as Music Director. Apparently, the NYC critics were not happy as I recall.Was televised I saw. First half was a John Adams brief work and Copland's "American Songs" with Thomas Hampson.

Excellent recording, Neil. I grew up with Bruno Walter on Columbia, but now I have a strong liking for Barenboim's Berlin Staatskapelle on DVD.

A unique, sonorous,very somber, dark, at times almost bellicose reading of the Ravel I suspect influenced by the moment.Impressive. Before his compelling encore by Ukrainian composer Sergei Bortkiewicz , Giltburg addressed the audience , in French , about the War. I heard the entire programme except for the Rachmaninoff. Macelaru addressed the audience before the Silvestrov.

Came across this recently. Wonderful Scriabin playing by a pianist unknown to me.I dont think the Op.22 Preludes are played live often, or even recorded often, jewels, of which I try to play No.1. Philip Glass ‘ “Double Piano Concerto” for Two Pianos and Orchestra (2015) , the Labeque sisters with Rotterdam Phil. directed by composer John Adams, live in Utrecht,October,2021. My first hearing. Wonderful work, I shall look for a cd recording, but apparently no cd yet , even none by the sisters for whom it was written. The first and third movs. were very interesting, the second a bit long for its material. On balance, a very lyrical yet somber work, even though it opens exuberantly.

Buketoff, a vastly underrepresented figure on CDs. He's quite famous in Philadelphia as a choral conductor. He recomposed his own version of Mussorgsky's "Boris Godunov" that was produced at the MET some decades ago, and led the premier recording of Rachmaninoff's opera, "Monna Vanna" starring Sherrill Milnes on Chandos:

IIRC Beethovens rarely played own shorter cadenza for this movement. I agree that the recording with Leopold Ludwig surpasses the recording with Szell, but in a way I like the somewhat departure mood of the latter. Gilels also recorded this concerto with Masur and Sanderling.
