Anybody for a complete EMI Paavo Berglund?
Warner is at it again - I hope they always will be. Now we have a 42 CD [76615] set of Finnish conductor Paavo Berglund's [1929-2012] complete EMI recordings. This one probably will not be for me. I have many of his EMI recordings, Sibelius' seven symphonies and other works, his collaborative work with pianists such as John Ogdon, Andsnes, Ortiz, Tortelier, Menuhin, and a fine Rachmaninoff Symphony #3 [and another on RCA]. On Ondine, there's the four symphonies of Brahms. His work is very well documented on disc. If you could say anything outstanding about the conductor's work on disc, what would it be?

I enjoy some of those Sibelius recordings, but don't know much else of his recording history.

I bought his Sibelius cycle on a reviewer's recommendation, but found it disappointing, frankly. Haven't kept up with him. There's only so much room on my shelves, eh?

Agreed. There is, after all, only so much room. We might not even have the time to hear everything we already have piled up. I've been trying to make more time. I thought if one gets older it would be easier but it doesn't seem that way.
